We are regretful yet joyful to announce the August 31, 2021 retirement of Dr. David A. Toivonen, M.D.. He has provided specialized care at Hand to Shoulder Center of Wisconsin for the last 26 years and has delivered thousands of patients their best possible outcome. Although he will greatly be missed at the office, all the staff at Hand to Shoulder of Wisconsin wish him the best of luck. He has contributed value to this practice that is irreplaceable.

David A. Toivonen, M.D. joined Hand to Shoulder Center of Wisconsin in 1995. He is a board certified orthopedic surgeon with a Subspecialty Certification in Surgery of the Hand. He treats disorders of the upper extremity including hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder injuries and conditions. Dr. Toivonen has a special interest in wrist arthroscopy and the orthopedic treatment of wrist disorders. His practice philosophy is to provide his patients with the best possible outcome in hand to shoulder care while providing the patient with the understandings of their condition and the options available.
Dr. Toivonen earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin and completed his five-year orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison, Wisconsin. Dr. Toivonen then completed his fellowship in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery at the State University of New York – Syracuse.
Dr. Toivonen is committed to research and education. He has given numerous lectures on hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder conditions and has been published in professional medical journals.
David Toivonen, M.D. is married with three sons. He and his family enjoy the outdoors and traveling.
